Being at a Big Fight Night is an awesome experience being at the “big fight” abroad
adds another dimension to that experience. If you’re an avid boxing fan looking to
follow your favourite British Fighter abroad or simply wanting to combine your holiday
with a night of World Championship Boxing you should look no further than SPORT-
British fighters have always had mixed success abroad and 2011 was no different.
The defeats of David Haye, Carl Froch, Matthew Macklin were disappointing. This was
also the case with Amir Khan although this was not without some controversy.
Dereck
Chisora’s loss to WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko in Munich during February
2012 was commendable and surprised most pundits who expected a relatively quick
win for the champion but the events that followed at the post fight press conference
continue to cast a shadow.
With Amir “King Khan” hoping for success in his rematch
with Lamont Peterson, NOW CANCELLED – Register here for Amir’s next fight. Carl Froch
has another chance against Lucian Bute and subject to some serious negotiations the

Many great fights have been held in iconic venues like New York’s Madison Square
Garden, Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. Las Vegas with the glitzy hotels, neon signs
and famous strip is acclaimed as the “Boxing Capital of the World” and has staged
some of the greatest fights in history. Hagler vs Hearns, Leonard vs Hearns, Bowe
vs Holyfield 1, Tyson vs Berbick, Trinidad vs Vargas, Corrales vs Castillo I, Barrera
vs Morales being amongst those.
For over fifty years British Fighters have travelled
abroad to fight for, or defend world boxing championships. In the beginning it was
only family, friends, club mates, promoters and managers who made the journeys. From
the 1970’s when travel became easier and more affordable, the overseas support for
British boxers continued to grow. The successes and popularity of John Conteh, Colin
Jones, Barry McGuigan, Lloyd Honeyghan, Nigel Benn, Carl Thompson, Naseem Hamed,
Lennox Lewis, Joe Calzaghe and David Haye were instrumental in the growing popularity
of Boxing Tours abroad – but support for Ricky Hatton took it to another level, a
mantel now expected to be carried by Amir “King Khan” Khan.
